Hi Ladies,
Do you have a God-given Vision for marriage? Perhaps you can see it so clearly, the loving husband, the adorable, adoring children, the dinner table surrounded by grandkids and even great-grandbabies in your wise old age. It all depends upon acquiring that spouse, and this goal may loom largest of all in your life.
But you can’t leap over any of the steps that God has ordained for you in order to get there. Your hopes and plans are like the branches of this ancient tree. It still reached up toward the sun, but the soil it’s rooted in and the sturdy iron support are what enable it to endure. This is analogous to how our Lord supports us, allowing us to reach for our personal Vision when we’re rooted and grounded in Him.
Yet it’s possible that what you’re waiting for still hasn’t arrived. No matter how hard or how fast you’ve hurried toward that relationship goal, it may have remained in the distance, seemingly no closer now than it was at the beginning. And possibly your enthusiasm and anticipation are dimming. It can seem to be a futile effort to keep hoping and praying, declaring and believing. Maybe, somehow, you’ve misunderstood God about that husband promise?
Hands Off!
Well, when you get bogged down, it’s time to seek our Father’s peace, then relax and release your Vision to Him. It is then, when you’ve lifted your hands from the situation and realized that in your own power you can do nothing, the Lord is preparing to move. He is the sole answer to attaining any goal, and without Him nothing will get done.
Never try to rush through God’s process, because your progress depends upon obedience. As Believers, we gain strength to withstand delays, disappointments, and frustrations by drawing upon His power to overcome. If we turn fully to Christ when facing problems, we learn that He has provided comfort and guidance through Holy Spirit to undergird our faith. 2 Corinthians 1: 5 states “For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ.” Whatever the situation is, we may go through it, but we will also get through it.
The end result will be a deeper relationship with our Sovereign God, which is exactly what He wants you to have before placing you into a binding lifelong union with a mate. A strong, unshakeable faith in Jesus is the necessary basis upon which to build an enduring marriage. And the way to solidify that firm foundation is to “set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.” (Colossians 3: 2)
As your faith deepens, our Father will comfort, support and establish you. And your complete surrender to His Will then moves you forward on the pathway toward reaching your Vision. Rather than futile stressing about receiving your desire, pray, study the Word, listen to Holy Spirit, and submit to His leading. This is a prerequisite for your personal spiritual growth.
If you’re filled with God’s Vision for your nuptials-to-be, embrace it. Enjoy the knowledge of the blessing to come, then purpose to stay on the course that He has set you upon, for this and for all your life goals. Instead of fretting or trying to push out on your own, focus on establishing your relationship with Him. When you aren’t striving to land a mate through self-directed efforts, when you refuse to succumb to rebellion and defiance, and no longer even harbor expectations, then His plans will blossom forth in your life.
At the point where you’re no longer concerned about the steps that God requires of you, you’ve reached the place of readiness to receive. You must be willing to take those steps, to trust, and to love, and to follow Him whether you understand His ways or not. Developing your understanding is not the Lord’s goal…developing your obedience is. Your spouse will then be freed to step into his place beside you.
Joy and Shalom…until next week!
