Hi Ladies,

Do you need emergency help, or spiritual triage for a dilemma you’re facing with your marital goals? The Word of God is here to help, your own godly EMT! Often single ladies, despite an earnest desire to receive their spouse, struggle with the realities that marriage could bring. You may be praying for a mate, yet fearful of actually receiving him, because every woman knows that the reality of marriage is often far from the glossy, idealized image we may hold in our minds. The gritty truth of being linked for a lifetime to a specific fellow can diminish its appeal, so let’s evaluate the biblical realities of the God-ordained relationship between a husband and wife, and your responses to them.

What Is He?

What does The Word call for a man to be? There are biblical fundamentals that delineate the male mentality, verses which form their bedrock identity, regardless of denominational trappings or any references to women in the same context. Here are a few scriptures to consider on basic Christian male orientation:

He is Created in God’s Own Image. Genesis 1: 26, 27– “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him.”

He is Given to Ruling. Genesis 1: 26 – “Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

He is Head Over the Woman, and Answers to Christ in the Chain of Command. Genesis 3: 16 – “Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”; 1 Corinthians 11: 3 – “But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.”; 1 Peter 3: 1 – “Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands.”; Ephesians 5: 33 – “Let the wife see that she respects her husband.”

He Has Rule Over His Household. 1 Timothy 3: 12 – “Let deacons be the husband of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.”; Genesis 18: 19 – “He may command his children and his household after him.” 1 Timothy 3: 5 – “For if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?”

His Primary Role Is to Work to Provide for His Household. Genesis 3: 17 – “Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life.”; Exodus 20: 9 – “Six days you shall labor and do all your work.”

He is the Priest for His Family. Joshua 24: 15 – “But for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Deuteronomy 32: 46 – “…you shall command your children to be careful to observe – all the words of this law.”

He is Head of the Church. 1 Corinthians 14: 34 – “Let your women keep silent in the churches.” Acts 6: 3 – “Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.”

You may have already learned that many Believing men, even in our “modern” age, regard these scriptures literally, and most have no trouble understanding and accepting them as their ordained role as males. They tend to feel these mandates are so clear that there should be no confusion or discussion of them with the woman in their life.

If you, however have a problem accepting men in these roles, or with relinquishing your own control in these areas, you must seek God about what He’s saying to you. If you question or resent the validity of such verses, know that there’s only the truth of The Word. You either grow to understand how it will operate in your man, or place yourself in rebellion to it. The decision is yours, but God is there to help when you start gasping for air!

Joy and Shalom!
